HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM PATAGONIA

Photo: Lovely Little Bird at Puyuhuapi Fiord, Patagonia

Wishing all my friends and memebrs of this Network a very Happy New Year. It's pouring down, but we're all cosy inside the internet cafe and ready to see how New Year is celebrated in La Junta. We've got our New Year's wish list pinned to our wall and this year it's a long one - why not. We have a very big sketch pad and a page has been filled.

One of our major requests is… Continue

Where do we dig?

After we completed our poly-tunnel on November 28th, we moved on to designing our dome house.

About a year ago, we came to this land and designed our two bedroom house with a conservatory. We were going to build four domes and… Continue

THE VALLEY OF LUPINES, PUYUHUAPI FIORD, NO LAMBS, BUT FLOWERS GROW ON OUR LAND

Two weeks ago we had to make a journey to Coyhaique, the only big town in Patagonia (pop. 40,000) to buy the things we need to build our home. Its a long way to go, 300 kilometers, but we have no choice. Anyway, we hitched a ride on a municipal garbage truck to Puyhuapi, a tiny fishing village at the top end of a spectacular fiord which is just forty… Continue

PINK HORSES AND SPINY PLANTS

Nature is full of unusual things: Here we have a Pink Horse and a Nalca Plant, both from La Junta. The peeled spiny stem of the plant can be eaten in spring, before the large leaf fully opens. It tastes like a watery, lemony Rhubarb, grows all around and can be eaten raw with sugar, in pies or in the form of ice-cream, which I am told is delicious. The Pink Horse is one of many horses that hang around the… Continue

Friendly and Peaceful, Patagonia

Created a new one. Looks like a space ship so we named this one "Enterprise" from Startreck

To Create Something From Zero

La Junta is a cowboy town. People are regurarly on the horse. People park their horses in front of the supermaket.

A VERY HAPPY FISHERMAN & HOW A SENSITIVE TOUR INDUSTRY CAN PROTECT THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT

The sun is now shining bright and it's tourist and fishing season in Patagonia. We've had plenty of rain recently, the rivers are powerful and the fish are biting. Each week we are invited by friends, Sergio and Maria Rosa our neighbours who own Cabanas Rosselot, to enjoy their freshly caught Trout. The other day, with the arrival of their guests, Ceasar and Lautaro from Antofagasta in hot, Northern Chile,… Continue
