Picnic Zone Added To Greenhouse And Pond.

The earth we've dug out to create the pit style greenhouse has been placed into earthbags and used to create a path to walk on and a the new pond to feed the plants. In the process we have created a new comfort zone, where we will make a bench, plant roses and have a nice picnic view zone.

This large mound of earth in the corner contains good soil that drains well and that we hope is suitable for cantaloupes and watermelons, a crop, up until now, not grown…

Finishing The Interior 内装が出来上がり始めました

We`ve finally got around to finishing the interior of the house. And I`ve decided to take a siesta! A great addition has been the very comfortable queen sized futon. Walls have been lined with Tepa, a local wood, and jute, which allows the earthbag walls to continue to breathe, which makes the air…

Turf Wall Almost Complete

It's taken some time, but the turf wall I've been building almost completely surrounds the house and gardens. I just need to make a couple of gates and we'll be able to get the ducks. I have already begun planting local bushes, Chilco, that have lovely red and purple flowers, on top of the new wall. This should look very beautiful.

The photo #2 shows the new terraces I've created while getting the turf for the wall. We'll plant them more…

A GUEST CABIN

Soon we'll be building a cabin for our guests, with friends, Megan and Happy. It will be a hybrid earthbag foundation, wood framed structure in a secluded part of our garden, invisible from the road and invisible from us. Should take around a month to get it to a condition good enough for them to move in while they search the region for a piece of land.

Happy's a carpenter with plenty of back woods experience, so I'm looking forward to what we'll come up and included in the…

A MERRY XMAS TO YOU ALL

It's Xmas and we're taking a break from digging to celebrate with friends in Frutillar, in the lake district of Chile. I am reminded of a tree planting and interview with Santa Claus in Hong Kong 2007. In the interview he spoke of the state of the planet and the plight of elves and…

Living the dream: The long journey for land in Patagonia

I'm now the Patagonian correspondent for I Love Chile, the nations premiere English language media resource. And I have just written this article http://ilovechile.cl/2011/11/04/living-dream-part-1-buying-land-patagonia/37279

I think you'll enjoy it, as though you have watched us build our house through this community, we've never really told the story as to how we actually came to be here…

THE LAWN MOWER

We have a hectare of pasture and it grows like wildfire. We've contemplated getting a sheep, or a goat but have planted lots of trees and they'll disappear along with the grass. We bought a scythe, but can't seem to find the time to use it. Then our friend Arilo, who supplies us with the wood…
