Wishing all my friends and memebrs of this Network a very Happy New Year. It's pouring down, but we're all cosy inside the internet cafe and ready to see how New Year is celebrated in La Junta. THE VALLEY OF LUPINES, PUYUHUAPI FIORD, NO LAMBS, BUT FLOWERS GROW ON OUR LAND

Two weeks ago we had to make a journey to Coyhaique, the only big town in Patagonia (pop. 40,000) to buy the things we need to build our home. PINK HORSES AND SPINY PLANTS

Nature is full of unusual things: Here we have a Pink Horse and a Nalca Plant, both from La Junta. The peeled spiny stem of the plant can be eaten in spring, before the large leaf fully opens. It tastes like a watery, lemony Rhubarb, grows all around and can be eaten raw with sugar, in pies or in the form of ice-cream, which I am told is delicious.
