AIR IN SANTIAGO REMINDS US OF THE WORST OF CHINA

#1 Farm In Patagonia #2: Bridge Over Yellow River

After living in Patagonia for almost two years and experiencing the cleanest of air it is a shock to see how much air contamination there is in the capital. Yesterday we walked a few kilometers through Providencia and Las Condes and by the time it was finished my eyes were smarting. Even now I look out of our 12th flooor apartment window through a film of low level red and organge skies. Amazing what people can get used too - just like the frogs in the boiling pot. And apparently this is a better time of year to visit as it gets worse in summer. We spent on year walking through China and it was even worse - every day a walk through pollution.

#3 Lotus Beneath A Blanket Of Pollution Thirty Kilometers From Nearest City

Can't imagine we'll be leaving Patagonia much in the future - even our trips to Japan are off thanks to radiation - nevermind, we love our life and our moving increasingly towards towards self sustainability - our polytunnels will be complete by spring and then we'll plant enough veggies to feed people through our Earthwalker's Cafe - soon to open in La Junta.
