アースバックに必要な土。粘土が25～30％混ざっているのが理想。土をコップに入れ、水を入れて一晩寝かせると、粘土が一番上に浮いてくる。私たちの土地から取った土は、ほぼ理想の割合に近かった。神様、ありがとう！！（日本でも茶色い粘土質の土地はよくあるから、日本でもアースバック・ホームは作れる）

Photo 1: Vital materials for earthbag - soil. 25% to 30% clay in the soil is the best mix. We tested our soil in a glass of water by leaving it overnight. Clay rose above the soil/sand and we could see the clear line. Wow, our soil had 25% of clay in the soil. Perfect mix! Thank you God.

Another experiment. Make a ball with the soil, drop it from your shoulder hight. If they are not broken, it is appropriate mix for earthbag walls.

３週間の滞在期間もあっという間に終わり、マコレレとハヤトがそれぞれの旅路へ戻っていった。

Three weeks passed quickly. Makoto and Hayato had gone back to their journey through South America.

Tres semanas pasaron rápidamente. Makoto y Hayato habían vuelto a su viaje a través de Sudamérica.

パタゴニアにいる間にアースバックを作りたい！！という二人の希望通り、予想より大きな袋が届いてしまったとはいえ、なんとか、二人がパタゴニアを去る前にアースバックを作ることができた。50キロ入りの袋は大きすぎてかなり苦労したけれど(２日がかりで作った木型も壊れてしまった！）、25キロ入りの袋が1000枚の中に50枚だけ混ざっていたので、それを使ってみたら、コンパクトでしっかりとした四角いアースバックができたのだった！！

They really wanted to make earthbag walls during their stay, and they did just before they left here in spite of unexpected arrival of "way too big bags". We must admit it was a hard work to use a 50kg sized bag. Our two days worth of work - wooden earthbag stand - was broken in a day! However, we found 50 pieces of 25kg sized bag among 1000 bags. Wow! We had succeeded to make a square, compact and solid earthbag!

Quisieron realmente hacer los moros de "earthbags" durante su estancia en La Junta, y hicieron los antes de ellos se fueron aquí, aunque la llegada inesperada del los sacos demasiado grande. Debemos admitir que era un trabajo muy dificil para utilizar un saco de 50kg. ¡Nuestro valor de dos días del trabajo – la caja para formar del sacos de tierra - estaba quebrado en un día! Sin embargo, encontramos que 50 pedazos los sacos de 25kg entre los 1000 sacos. ¡Guau! ¡Habíamos tenido éxito para hacer un saco con tierra cuadrado, compacto y sólido!

アースバックというのは、ひとことで言うとポリプロピレンの袋の中に土を入れて固めたものを積んでいく方法。

"Earthbag Building" is essentially to make solid blocks by putting soil in polypropilen bags, tamping them and laying them down like blocks or bricks.

" Earthbag Building - Construction de Sacos de Tierra" está esencialmente hacer bloques sólidos poniendo la tierra en los sacos polipropileno, apisonándolos y poniéndolos abajo como bloques o ladrillos.

中東地方の人々や北米のアナサジ・インディアンなどは昔から土で家を作っていて1000年以上経っても崩れないという記録がある。ポールがアースバックを知ったのも、イラン人の建築家ナデル・カリリ（Nader Khalili）がカリフォルニアでカール・アース・インスティチュートというアースバッグ・ームの研究所を作り、そこで実践と教育を始めたことを知ったのがきっかけ。カリフォルニアではアースバック・ホームはエコハウスとして人気が出てきている。耐震性もすでにテストされており、アースバック・ホームが崩れるまで地震装置を稼動し続けたら、地震計が壊れてしまったという事実もある。

People in middle east and Anasazi Indian in North America made homes from earthbags which are still standing today more than one thousand years later. Paul came to know earthbag homes while searching the best way to build our sustainable home and discover the work of Iranian architect, Nader Khalili. Nader started Carl Earth Institute in California to teach and practice earthbag homes. More and more people are interested in earthbag homes in the United States. In California they did an earthquake resistance test to an earthbag homes. The result was amazing. The earthbag homes are so strong that the earthquake machine was broken.

La gente en Oriente Medio y el indio de Anasazi en Norteamérica hicieron hogares de los "earth bags" que todavía están colocando hoy más de mil años más tarde. Paul llegue conocer hogares del earthbag cuando buscaba la mejor manera de construir nuestro hogar sostenible y descubri el trabajo del arquitecto iraní, Nader Khalili. Nader comenzó al instituto de Carl Earth en California para enseñar y para practicar a hogares del earthbag. Ahora más gente está interesada en hogares del earthbag en los Estados Unidos. En California hizo una prueba de resistencia del terremoto a los hogares de un earthbag. El resultado era asombroso. Los hogares del earthbag son tan fuertes que la máquina del terremoto estaba quebrada.

また、アースバックで作った土壁は厚さが40センチほどあり、断熱材の働きをする。この土壁が昼間は太陽熱を蓄熱して、夜に放出するので温度差が少なく、暖房・冷房コストがほとんどかからない。床にも土や石などを使うとさらに「パッシブソーラー効果」と言って、昼間の太陽熱を壁だけでなく床でも蓄熱でき、夜に放出できる。だから、昼間は涼しく、夜は暖かい。夏は涼しく、冬は暖かい。

Another benefit is the walls. The walls are about 40 cm wide and they are good insulation. Earthbag wall will regulate the temparature and save us heating/cooling cost by storing heat from the sun during the day and release it during the night. If we use stone or rocks for the floor, the floor stores heat during the day and release during the night. This "passive solar effect" will keep us cool in the summer, and warm in the winter.

Otro beneficio es los muros. Los muros son cerca de 40 cm ancho y son buen aislamiento. Los muros de Earthbag regularán el temparature y ahorran nosotros coste de calefacción por que los muros acumulan calor del sol durante el día y lo libran á durante la noche. Si utilizamos la piedra o las rocas para el piso, el piso acumula calor durante el día y lo libran durante la noche. Este "efecto solar pasivo" nos mantendrá frescos el verano, y se calentará en el invierno.

それと、建築コストが安い。アースバックに使うのは、ポリプロピレンの袋、土、有刺鉄線が主な材料。外壁や内壁の漆喰には、土と藁を混ぜた「アーサンプラスター」など自然素材を使う。土は、自分の家を作る足元から取ってくることができればコストはかからない。ポリプロピレンの袋も生産元から印刷ミスなどを買うことができれば激安。有刺鉄線もそんなに高くない。

There are more benefit. Construction cost is relatively inexpensive. Main materials are polypropilen bags, soil and berbed wire. Plaster for interior/exterior will be natural materials such as earthen plaster - hey and soil mix. If you can get a perfect soil for earthbag walls, they are free!! Mispring polypropiren bags can be purchased at reasonable price. If you want to use the used bags, you need to have a perfect soil and good conditioned bags so that you don't have to worry about the bags crumbling and soil falling. Barbed wire can be very cheap.

Hay más beneficio. El coste de construcción es relativamente barato. Los materiales principales son sacos polipropileno, tierra y el alambre de puas. El yeso para el interior y exterior será materiales naturales como yeso de tierra - mezcla del pasto y tierra. ¡Si usted puede sacar la tierra perfecta para earthbag del su terreno, están libres!! パタゴニアでは、南極からの風が吹いてきて春でも寒い。特に今年は雨が多くて、もう一ヶ月も冷たい雨が降り続いている。（ちなみに、去年の春は暑かったそうだ。ここでも気候が極端に変動している）みんなはどんな家に住んでいるかと言えば、一枚板でできた木造で断熱材もなく、隙間風がぴゅーぴゅーーー吹きまくる家が多い。おまけに、チリはガスと石油は輸入なのでとっても高い。だから、パタゴニアの人たちの暖房設備は薪ストーブのみ。みんな一日中、薪を燃やしている。薪も安くはない。町の人は現金収入もそんなにあるわけではないので、薪代も大変な出費だ。

South wind from Antactica can freeze Patagonians even in the spring. We have an extreme rain fall this spring, more than a month of everyday freezing cold rain. Locals are saying they had an extremely hot spring last year and concerned about climate change/global warming). If we take at the locals' homes, usually their house is made by wooden board with no insulation. They often have draft coming through. For heating they use fire wood stoves as petro and natural gas are very expensive comodity imported from Argentine. So people have to burn firewood all day long. Fire wood are not so cheap either. Locals don't have luxury to spend lots of cash on firewood and it is a lot of expense for them.

El viento del sur de Antactica es muy helado. Tenemos mucha lluvia extrema este primavera, más que un mes de la lluvia fría diaria. La gente local son diciendo ellos tenian extremadamente caliente en la primera pasado y estan preocupados sobre cambio del clima y el calentamiento global. Los hogares de la gente aqui son hechos generalmente por el tablero de madera sin el aislamiento. Para la calefacción utilizan las estufas de madera por que el petro y el gas natural son importados de Argentina y muy caro. La gente tiene que quemar tan la leña todo el dia. La leña no es tan barata tampoco. Ellos no tienen lujo gastar mucho dinero para la leña y es mucho costo para ellas.

最初、アースバック・ホームを作ることにしたのは、純粋に、地球に負担をかけずに住めて、コストが安い一番いい方法だと思ったからなのだけれど、パタゴニアに住み始めたら、地元の人たちにこそ、アースバックホームが必要なんじゃないかと思い始めた。

We originally decided to build earthbag homes because of its low environmental effect and low cost. However, once we started living in Patagonia, we started to think that it might be beneficial for locals.

先日も地元でインターネットカフェを営んでいる青年、マティアスがフィアンセのマーガレットを連れて、アースバックを見学に来た。彼女は興味津々で「パタゴニアの貴重な森がなくなり始めているのはとても悲しい。木を使わず、環境を汚染しない家を作れるというので見に来ました」と言っていた。二人は結婚したら、アースバック・ホームを作りたいのだそうだ。

The other day, a local youth, Matias who runs internet cafe in town came to see our earthbag making process with his fiance, Margareth. Margareth was very interested and said "it is very sad that we are losing indigineous forest in Patagonia. We are very interested in earthbag homes because it uses less wood and would not contaminate the environment" They said they would build an earthbag sweet home when they get married.

El otro día, nuesto amigo, Matias que tiene Internet Café vino mirar nuestro proceso de fabricación del earthbag con su novia, Margareth. Margareth era muy interesado y dicho; está muy triste que perdimos bosque indigineous en Patagonia. Estamos muy interesados en hogares del earthbag porque utiliza menos madera y no contaminaría el medio ambiente" Dijeron que construirían un hogar del earthbag cuando consiguen casados.

マーガレットは、早速、サンチャゴにあるポリプロピレン袋の工場に連絡を取ってくれて、25キロ入りの袋を注文できるかどうか聞いてくれた。すると、何枚からでもオーダーできて10日あればサンチャゴからラフンタまで届くという。ここ数日間で、ポールも私も、25キロ入りの袋を使ってなら、しっかりとしたアースバックを作れるようになったところ。壊れた木型を修理して、25キロ入りの袋を中に入れて粘土を詰めたら、パーフェクトだった！！

Margareth also called a polypropirene bag factory in Santiago, and found out we could buy 25kg sized bag (80cm high x 45cm wide) from any number of bags and they will get to La Junta in 10days. After Makoto and Hayato left, we managed to get a grips of how to make a solid bag with 25kg sized bags in the last few days. We fixed our once broken earthbag stand box for 25kg sized bags, and voala!! It made a perfect earth bag.

Margareth ha llamado una fábrica del sacos polipropileno en Santiago, y descubierto podríamos comprar el saco de 25kg (los 80cm alto x los 45cm ancho) de cualquier número de sacos y conseguirán a La Junta en diez dias. Después de que Makoto y Hayato se fueran, Paul y yo manejamos hacer un saco de tierra sólido con los sacos de 25kg. ¡Fijamos nuestra caja quebrada y ahora podemos formar earthbag con los sacos de 25kg , y voala!! Hizo un saco de tierra perfecto.

We didn't use barbed wire to make this particular wall because it was not so tall (1m hight), but usually we lay two lines of barbed wire on the first raw of earthbags, then lay second raw on top of it. Then continue to lay barbed wire on each raw of earthbags. In this way, earthbags won't move and become stronger.
